Sunset in Cederberg Mountains

Restful Relaxation in Cederberg Mountains

There’s nothing more relaxing than a weekend away. Away in the Cederberg Mountains. I have to admit they’ve been on my bucket list for a long time before I finally managed to spend some time there. Just before leaving South Africa I got to spend two amazing weekends in the middle of nowhere in the Gecko Creek Wilderness Lodge.

The Cederberg Mountains are located north of Cape Town. You can reach them in under 2 hours by car.

The Cederberg Wilderness Area is famous for three different things:

  • amazing hiking trails in the middle of nowhere
  • beautiful sunrises and sunsets that led the mountains glow red
  • peace and quietness

The Waterfall Hiking Trail – Algeria

About 30 minutes drive from the Lodge is a nice little hiking trail to a waterfall. It only takes about 1.5 hours to get up to the waterfall. The path is easy and even suitable for the “not so fit”. The entrance fee to the trail is less than R100 (I don’t remember the exact amount) and the way up is worth it. Here’s what you can expect to see at the top:
